Latest Updates from Our Project:

Playing Stargate SG-1 Roleplaying Game Online
over 3 years ago – Mon, Oct 26, 2020 at 08:55:40 PM

We have all be greatly affected by COVID-19 in one way or the other. One way, in particular, is that we haven't been able to get with our friends quite as much as we'd like. We love playing games with our friends and family, but getting together at a tabletop has gotten very difficult.

In the world we live in now, turning to online play is an obvious choice. So, we decided to put some effort in as part of this project to build a character sheet specifically designed for Roll20.net.

For those of you that don't know, Roll20.net is one of the more popular ways to play D&D games online. You can almost always find a game going on. All you need is an Internet connection and web browser and you can instantly be connected with those friends you've been missing.

This is FREE for everyone! Check it out...

Introducing the Roll20 Online Character Sheet...

The Roll20 online character sheet is available right now for you to check out. This link will give you instructions on how to add it to your games:

https://wiki.roll20.net/Stargate

During the KS, the Roll20 sheet has received a major update, v.1.50, the largest since GenCon.

The Roll20 sheet makes it easier to create & track your character and their stats online, and it enables you to make rolls at the press of a button, directly from the sheet.

New Features:

  • Add tooltip to most buttons and stats to find out more about them
  • Settings-page created, with a few customization options added
  • Attacks section made more clear and made to work more flexibly
  • Important fields that need to be filled out are highlighted in red, to make them stand out.
  • Bulk tracker & small Inventory section on first page
  • Tracking for more stats: The Settings page have sections for tracking Mission Points, Eureka Points, and even some NOC stats

Improved Looks & Rolls:

  • Rolls look much nicer in the chat, and have improved functionality
  • Roll buttons on a sheet made more obvious
  • Add buttons to rolling Hit Dice, Tension Dice & Long Rest(Settings Page)
  • 4 Custom spots for creating your own rolls(such as using Class abilities)(Settings Page), with included examples

API Integration(Roll20 Pro feature)

The GroupInit API now supports the Stargate sheet! You can configure the API to the Stargate sheet from it's settings menu(accessed with `!group-init --help`) when you first enable it. Useful for Gatemasters to manage multiple NPCs in combat or moxie turn order.

More info & the Future

The Instruction page for the Roll20 sheets has also been updated with info on these changes, as well as more tips & tricks for Gate Masters on running a Stargate game on Roll20.

The Sheet is under active development and has many planned features, such as options for an NPC sheet, and improved tracking of Feats, Abilities, and Gear.

Other Platforms:

I know that there are several of you that may use other platforms for online play other than Roll20. Please know that we are considering rolling out to other platforms. It is just that we started with Roll20. We hope to be on all of the major platforms in the near future.

How do we get there faster?

Please continue to share the project with your gamer friends to help us make an even better game!

Development Team Story 2
over 3 years ago – Mon, Oct 26, 2020 at 03:09:58 PM

This update is going to be a little different than the others. I've asked some of our development team members to do write-ups about their experience with the project. The following is the second of these, from Lee Alley, who is an "episode" writer, editor, and show-runner for "season" 2.

I asked Lee, "Can you talk about your role and experience working on the Stargate SG-1 Living Roleplaying Game Series?" The following is his answer.

I’m Lee Alley, one of the “episode” writers for the Stargate SG-1 Living Roleplaying Game Series. The other “episode” writers and I started planning the first “season” of the Living RPG Series in late 2019. We chatted back and forth on Discord—which is kinda like a writers’ room for a TV show. Bouncing ideas off each to see what would stick. The 13 “episodes” have the highs and lows of any modern TV series. Players will learn what the threat is at the beginning of the “season,” gain allies to fight for the same cause, possibly lose a member of their SG team, formulate a plan to overcome the threat, lose all hope as their plan fails, and finally rally against the odds in the finale of the “season!”

While the Living RPG Series “episodes and seasons” are planned out, they are able to change and grow based on the players’ actions. Some events will still happen in the “season” storyline, but they may be altered. What do I mean exactly? Examples work best. Let us say your player characters encounter a surly Jaffa NPC early in the season. If your players befriend them, and the overall feedback is positive towards this Jaffa, perhaps this particular Jaffa’s role may become more important than was once planned. Another example could be if the majority of groups fail in making a clan of Unas their ally, later in the season those Unas no longer show up to lend their assistance, making the task more difficult.

Often roleplayers only react to a plot; in a Living RPG Series, we strive to include the players so they can influence the plot. As the Stargate SG-1 Living RPG Series “seasons” unfold, the “episode” writers will talk with each other to include Gatemaster and player feedback. While this can be a challenge, we are all forming the storyline together. I hope you all enjoy what we have in store for you. It’s going to be a fun ride!
